What to Expect

If you are new to this work, it is natural to have questions. Below are some of the questions I am most often asked about one-on-one awareness sessions and Awareness Through Movement®.

  • Understanding a pattern intellectually and experiencing it directly are not always the same thing.

Many people come to this work with a great deal of insight. They can describe their habits, reactions, and recurring challenges clearly, yet still find themselves living them.

Awareness Through Movement® offers an opportunity to explore these patterns through direct experience rather than analysis alone. By learning to notice yourself more clearly in movement, sensation and attention, you may begin to discover options that were previously outside your awareness.

Rather than trying to change yourself, the invitation is to become more aware of what is already happening. Often, new possibilities emerge from that awareness.

  • Sessions take place online in the comfort of your own home. Wearing comfortable clothing, you will be guided through gentle movement explorations and invited to pay attention to what you notice as you move. There is no correct way to do the movements and nothing to achieve. The emphasis is on exploration rather than performance.

  • You will need a computer or device with a camera so that I can see you and guide you throughout the lesson. Please set up your camera so that your full body is visible whenever possible.

Most lessons require enough floor space to lie down and move comfortably. A moving blanket, yoga mat covered by a blanket or other non-grippy firm surface can work well. I also recommend having a few folded towels nearby, as they are used to support the head or provide additional comfort.

Depending on the lesson, explorations may take place lying on the floor, sitting on the floor, sitting on a firm chair or standing. Comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement is recommended.

  • Yes. Because this work is guided through movement, I need to be able to see you in order to support your exploration and offer appropriate guidance throughout the session.

  • No. The lessons are designed to be accessible to people of varying abilities and experience levels. The focus is not on stretching, strengthening or achieving a particular result but on developing awareness of yourself through movement.

  • While there may be similarities in the quality of attention involved, this work is different. Rather than following set postures or quieting the mind, we use movement as a way of exploring how you sense yourself and how you learn through experience. It’s about gaining awareness.

  • My role is not to diagnose, fix, coach or provide answers. I offer movement explorations with reflective questions that support you in learning through your own experience.

  • Each person's experience is unique. Often, people report a greater awareness of habitual patterns, increased ease in movement, a deeper connection with themselves and new possibilities in situations that once felt fixed.

  • No. Sessions are private and are never recorded.

  • No. The work I offer is educational and awareness-based in nature. Through movement and guided attention you are invited to explore and learn from your own experience.
